Coronavirus India Live update: India has 8,97,394 active cases of Covid-19 as of Wednesday. This accounts for 20.53 per cent of the total caseload in the country.
Over 11.54 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in a span of 24 hours taking India’s cumulative tests to over 5.18 crore so far, while during the same period nearly 75,000 people have recuperated from the disease taking the total number of recoveries to 33,98,844 in the country, the Centre said on Wednesday
Maharashtra, the country’s second most populous state, continues to add the highest numbers (23,577 on Wednesday). Andhra Pradesh (10,418) was the only other state with infections in four digits, followed by Karnataka’s 9,540.
Just a few days ago, India became the second country with the largest caseload, after the United States, which has 6,326,510 cases. India is followed by Brazil (4,162,073), Russia (1,032,354) and Peru (691,575). However, in terms of deaths due to Covid-19, India ranks third after the US (189,637) and Brazil (127,464).
The number of people recovered from Covid-19 in India has surged to 33,98,844, further improving the recovery rate to 77.8 per cent.
